Your first love,
You remember yours, my musical muse was a genre. I got into DJing seriously a bit more then a year ago. When I was first experimenting with sounds, one genre kept on creeping back in my mind even when I was on an expensive date with another. We had on and off relationship for about six months, and even though I don’t consider this genre my sound, I still listen to it often. Mixing your sound is very tricky and it takes time to figure out what and how you want to mix. I am still ont that journey, alas Nu-Disco is no longer part of my sound, however it is a beautiful genre that is now gaining so much momentum even Mitt Romney has jumped on the bandwagon.
I may not mix Nu-Disco, but its a genre very well worth listening to. Nostalgia and modern sounds fused together into one beautiful conglomeration that will surely whet the most insatiable appetites.
Montreal is usually at the forefront of music genres, but has taken time to adapt to this one, and I don’t know why. It just seems like a perfect marriage for an uplifting night at the club. I have many Nu-disco tunes in my arsenal, but there was one that kept on appearing and reappearing in all my sets. It was a golden (pun intended) remix of Niki & The Dove’s Mother Protect.
Goldroom’s tunes are easy to digest and go down well, smooth is an understatement. You could be in the middle of arctic circle with a hairy soviet fellow starring at you incessantly, and if by chance a Goldroom song came on you two might as well be sipping on Corona’s in the middle of the south pacific. Its feel good music and we are lucky because Goldroom is coming to Montreal. It is an appropriate send off to an amazing summer. One last hurrah with the sound of nu disco, a sound that truly embodies a summer mindset.
Grab a bunch of your friends and go to Balroom on Friday October 12th, I will be there rep’n ATV, as well as getting seduced by the sexy sounds of Goldroom. Let’s make Nu-Disco happen in this city where indie has prevailed and become King, let us fight for our right to party.
