Club MEG @ Belmont : Canblaster, Sam Tiba, Beataucue

Club MEG @ Belmont : Canblaster, Sam Tiba, Beataucue

Montreal’s MEG (Montreal Electronic Groove) Festival is one of our city’s unsung and underrated institutions. For the past few years, they’ve brought some of the most amazing acts to the 514, and have consistently booked a series of legendary showcases. Enumerating all of their past shows would take forever, but I will mention the fact that MEG brought Justice to Montreal in 2006, a year before they released , which is serious display of foreshadowing. I also read an interview with Sinjin Hawke recently where he credits an electro boat cruise with DJ Funk & DJ Assault for inspiring him to make music, and I’ll give you one guess who was behind that.

This Friday, Club MEG is featuring a ridiculous line-up of French producers like electrohouse duo Beataucue, and two members of the mighty Club Cheval collective at Montreal’s LE BELMONT bar. I’m speaking, of course, of the skills of rap/jersey club encyclopedia Sam Tiba, and the anime-on-mescaline vibes of Canblaster. Montreal is also well represented, with local DJ Henward opening the festivities.

With the support of the Consulat général de France à Québec, and in partnership with Moog Audio, MEG presents:

The MEG Club yet again hits the ground running! On Friday the 27th of July, it brings together the best of the best from the up-and-coming French electro scene for an anthology show at the Belmont, a temple for seekers of original music. Three of today’s most promising DJs will be taking turns tweaking the dials to keep you going and make that heartrate soar!

I’ve prepared a little chef’s menu/table d’hote for you, so that you know what to expect on this magical evening. There’s a great mix that Club Cheval prepared for Rob da Bank, as well as a few remixes that will get you in the mood to rave, rave & not behave. I’ve been a HUGE fan of Canblaster + Sam Tiba for a serious minute, and this will be my first time actually seeing them DJ, so I’m predictably stoked. I haven’t gotten real trippy in a good long while, so I’m doing this feature before the event, not after, ha.
