Booty Bakery #37: Venus X, Rizzla
Booty Bakery #37: Venus X, Rizzla
Make no mistake, Booty Bakery is the hottest thing Montreal has going for it right now.
There are a lot of amazing parties thrown every week, and we’ve got our fair share of great promoters, DJs and collectives, but nobody curates a debauchery filled evening quite like Bongiovanni, Compton Chic and Phil Sparkz.
For the past 37 weeks, they’ve brought some of the most varied and talented producers and DJs to Montreal, from international titans like DJ Sliink, Full Crate, French Fries, Bambounou, Addison Groove, Nadus and NGUZUNGUZU, to local superstars like Sibian & Faun, ESL & Nasty FM, Artbeat Crew, ALAIZ Crew, Boomclap Soundcrew and Kaytradamus.
To celebrate their meteoric rise to notoriety, Booty Bakery is moving the event to a bigger venue a few times a month. They’ve gotten a lot of local love since their inception, and now they’re getting too big for Blue Dog’s narrow-ass hallways. This thursday, they will be taking over Le Belmont for a very special edition of Booty Bakery Thursdays.
Here’s what’s on the menu this week:
Lookout & Booty Bakery present Booty Bakery #37: Venus X, Rizzla
In terms of musical variety and cross-genre dance music, you’d be hard pressed to find a event that delivers it more than BOOTYBAKERY this Thursday. To my knowledge, this will be the first time that Venus X & Rizzla play in Montreal, and given GHE20 G0TH1K’s reputation, this will be one to remember. Boomclap Soundcrew’s Nick Brutus Grass will be the hypeman, and the crowd will be warmed up by Ponyio (Ian Invincible), an local emcee known mainly in Montreal’s gay party scene (Gaybash, etc). Sex, drugs, alcohol and vogueing will be present, and we’re hoping you will be too.
ATV x BOOTY BAKERY x LOOKOUT PRESENTS. Business as usual.
Venus X (GHE20 G0TH1K/NYC)
Anyone who has paid attention to the dark and sexy world of underground dance music in the past few years will have heard rumblings of a New York City party named GHE20 G0TH1K. Founded and curated by the always inflammatory DJ Venus X, GHE20 G0TH1K was a primarily LGBT dance party that featured a lot of trippy global bass music and performances by wildly eclectic DJs. Venus X is well known for her refusal to pander to the crowd, and has even gone as far as to play youtube rips of obscure regional dance music. Although you may not dig all of the sounds she’ll subject your synapses to, I can bloody guarantee that she’ll play music that she’s wildly passionate about. Above all else, that’s what we usually look for in a DJ. Plus, it helps that she plays dope shit.
Rizzla (Fade to Mind/BOS)
Massachusetts based producer Rizzla has been on my radar for a hot minute, mainly due to his devotion to hard-ass booty clappin’ bangers. Signed to Kingdom’s FADE to MIND label along with MikeQ, he of course has a penchant for vogued-out dance music, and his cunty remixes fit that raunchy, razor sharp scene’s energy perfectly. His soundcloud is filled with a truckload of dope edits and originals, and if the intensity of his live show is even remotely comparable to the frenzy of his productions, folks will get wet/hard/etc A$AP.
The Booty Based Mob is of course opening this magic evening with DJ sets of their own. I’ve waxed poetic about their merits before, and all you need to know is that they kill it. Oh, and hey, they’ve even made a promo video for their big move to Belmont. (a.k.a see you on Thursday)
